Kellys Testimony written by Becky Talbot Inspired by God

Who Kelly is....

Kelly is my daughter and she was born with spinal bifida. She is my "Miracle Child."
Two weeks before her due date the doctors advised me that they had spotted something irregular on the ultrasound. The only doctors appointment that my husband had not gone with me, I was to hear this by myself. The doctors referred me to a specialist for the remainder of my pregnancy, who advised us that our baby had a hole in her spine. Kelly was born on August 6, 1993 by c-section to prevent any more damage. They took every precaution available. We were advised after her birth that she would require surgery to repair the hole in her spine. But not to expect too much..she could be paralyzed..mentally handicapped..need a shunt to drain the fluid from her brain..and the list went on. Kelly was only 2 days old when this surgery was to take place. Surgery was to take about 2 hours and 6 1/2 hours later it was finished. She stayed in intensive care for weeks to follow. Traveling back & forth to a hospital one hour away daily tended to be overwhelming, but I wanted to be with my baby. We now were to play the wait & see game. The nurse called me at home early one morning before I had left and told me that they had found that Kelly also had a dislocated left hip. After all this child had been through, the first few days of life, now this. Kelly came home in bandages just a few weeks later. I could not physically hold her, she had to stay on her side at all times. I could only move her to roll her from side to side. I changed her dressings, fed her while she lay in her bed, and never once questioned God. I knew I was not suppose to do that. God has reasons for all things. As Kelly grew the doctors said she would never walk. She was not showing any effects of a mental handicap, but she did everything later than a normal child would. Still no hope that she would ever walk. When she was 19 months old Kelly surprised us all by standing behind her push toy that grandma had gotten her for Christmas and took 2 steps. What a glorious day that was! That evening we went to church & Kelly walked down the aisle with that push toy. There was not a dry eye in the church.

It is Revealed

Through all of this my husband and I saw our faith grow & our relationship with God get deeper. One afternoon sitting on my sofa, thinking about God & his mercy, he spoke to my spirit just as if he were sitting next to me, "Kelly had to go through this as a testimony for your ministry." God had known that deep down inside that I wanted to know "why?" even though I would not ask. Kelly is now an 9 year old beautiful little girl that only wears a brace on her left leg. I know that one day God will fully heal her, but I believe as he has already shown me, that he has his reasons & his own time.

Update August 2001;Another Miracle

Please keep in mind the reason for this new surgery was to remove scar tissue from her first surgery that was causing problems. Kellys surgery was to last 6 hours, 4 1/2 hours into the surgery the doctor came out and said she was fine, but he had found some pretty interesting things while he was in there..(these are his words not mine.) There was no scar tissue. He had operated on virgin territory. There was no indication of any previous surgery. Her spine had never been touched by a surgeon. What he had was a mylomenengicil that needed repair and that is what he did. Kelly had a lengthy surgery when she was 2 days old to repair that same mylomenengicil. What I find so amazing is that when we were all praying for God to remove that scar tissue, he removed the surgery that caused it! Leave it to God to add and extra twist to things just to make our minds boggle!!! Needless to say we were all in tears by the time he finished what he was saying because we knew that God had touched Kelly. Now some people would see this as the first surgeon did not do what he was suppose to....but you see, I know a God that has the power to change things! I know that same God touched her. I have seen the xrays of her spine over the years and I saw the MRI that showed the scar tissue. I want this to be a testimony that can help someone renew their faith in an awesome God! I want this to help someone decide to live for Jesus Christ! I spoke to Kelly after the surgery and explained to her what Jesus had done for her and reminded her that she is very special in Gods eyes...and that he has big plans for her...and no matter what happens in her life as she grows up...she is to always remember the two miracles that he has done for her in only 8 years of her life. You know when we feel that our lives are just falling apart and we try to keep our faith..it is hard when you can't feel Gods presence. But, just know this...God is always there. I cannot imagine what I would do without God in my life...and I pray that if anyone out there does not know him...please take the time to talk to him...get the know what an awesome God he is! He will never let you down....I promise!
